    Top 10 Firefox 3 Features

    • firefox3.jpg

Firefox 3 hasn’t been officially released yet—a public preview release is available and intended for testers only. While it’s a very stable preview.Firefox 3 has got tons of new features and improvement in which might be interested.Life hacker has defined some new feature which i m also posting here for your knowledge and after getting these feature know you might be thinking to download firefox 3.

      10. Souped-up Add-ons manager

ff3_addons.pngA big part of what makes Firefox so special to power users is its extensibility with extensions, add-ons, plug-ins and themes, and Firefox 3’s Add-ons dialog got the attention it deserved. The Fox’s Add-Ons menu is more robust and intuitive on at least two fronts. You can search and install extensions and themes right from the pop-up box, no browsing required. Also, a new plug-in manager lets you enable and disable third-party helpers like Flash, QuickTime, and anything else that makes content work.

      9. More intuitive interface overall

zoom.pngMozilla tweaked and updated a whole lot of little things here and there throughout Firefox 3, which amounts to a big overall boost in usability. Most noticeably when you first switch, the Back button only appears on the address bar if there is a page to go back to, and when it does, it’s bigger and easier to click. Users who want to make sites with small text more readable permanently are in luck; Firefox 3 can increase the size of images and text, or just the text, on hard-to-read sites. In addition, Firefox 3 applies favicons more consistently to bookmarks, you can click a site’s favicon to get extended site identification information, you can resize the search box to hold more than two words, and the find-on-page search box automatically grabs the currently selected word, just to name a few new UI improvements.

      8. Stronger phishing and malware protection

ff3_phishing.jpgFirefox 3 has stronger filters and protection against malware, phishing sites, cookies, and other tools that compromise privacy and security. A malware warning shows up when you visit sites known to install malicious software, Firefox 3 doesn’t show the content of knock-off sites (like PayPal “Update Your Account” phishing scams) by default, and Firefox 3 checks against Google’s ever-growing blacklist of phishing sites. Now you can feel even better switching your less tech-aware relatives over to the open-source browser.

      7. Improved download manager

ff3_downloads.pngNever wonder where a download came from, or went to, again. Gran Paradiso’s download manager lets you search through recent files, resume big downloads after a crash or restart, and lets you keep an eye on your transfers in the status bar.

      6. Native looks for every system

ff3_toolbars.jpgYour browser is a serious part of your computer time, so having it look like nothing else on your system can be seriously annoying. Firefox’s designers made system integration a priority with this release, and it shows—even Windows XP’s and Vista’s button layouts have subtle differences in color and shading. There’s differences at deeper levels, too, with Cover Flow-type styling in the add-ons manager for OS X, transparencies in key places in Vista and OS X, and other tweaks that make your browser feel like a natural extension of your system.

      5. Streamlined “Remember password” handling

ff3_signin.pngNo more guessing whether you’re saving the right password or clicking “Cancel” on unnecessary pop-up requests. Gran Paradiso only asks you to utilize its password-saving function once you’re already in and sure everything worked, and it won’t block you from seeing the logged-out version of a page if you don’t want to sign in.

      4. Smart bookmarks

smart_bookmarks.pngMuch like iTunes’ Smart Playlists, Firefox 3’s new Smart Bookmarks function can analyze your browsing habits and create lists of links based on it. The default bookmark toolbar only comes with three standards, “Most Visited,” “Recently Bookmarked,” and “Recent Tags” (more on that later), but it’s none too hard to make your own.

      3. Places Organizer replaces the Bookmark Manager

places_organizer.pngPrevious versions of Firefox’s bookmark organizer have been pretty utilitarian affairs that make you drag and drop your links around nested folders. With Firefox 3’s new Places Organizer, those with reams of URLs can find them using boolean rule searches and multi-column results, as well as keep them better organized with a tagging system. Better still, you can save those smart searches for when you next need them.

      2. Smart Location Bar learns how you browse

awesomebar.pngLike a personal assistant who telepathically knows when you’re going to need just the right phone number (or Starbucks fix), Firefox 3’s address bar, now dubbed the Smart Location Bar, helps you get to your frequently visited, or recently discovered, sites in super-quick fashion. That application you just read about on Lifehacker, but can’t remember the name? Type “li” into your address bar, and Firefox instantly pulls the relevant sites from your history. The bar also learns through repetition, so the next time you start searching with “li,” it knows you’re looking for Lifehacker, not Linux.

      1. Insanely improved performance

It’s not flashy, and it doesn’t have any social networking features, but Firefox 3’s actual performance is the best reason anyone should consider upgrading, or making the switch to the ‘fox. Firefox’s engineers claim that their third major release is 9.3 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 in JavaScript performance, and 2.7 times faster than Firefox 2. This means snappier browser performance when you’re using webapps like Gmail, Remember the Milk, and more. Even more important, especially for Mac users, is the improved memory usage and more than 15,000 improvements that make for a less crash-prone browser.

    • Jet-Powered Bicycle

      • jet_bike1.jpg

If skydiving doesn’t quite do it for you, you could always strap a jet engine to your chest. That’s what Bob Maddox did until discretion got the better of him and he decided a jet-powered bicycle might be a little safer.

Maddox, an artist and cabinetmaker in Medford, Ore., has been tinkering with pulse jet engines for seven years now. He’s recently started bolting them to old-school cruiser bicycles and selling them on eBay, and a video of him riding one is bouncing around the blogosphere.

We got ahold of him at his workshop, where he’s wrapping up a sweet purple jet bike for a customer in the Netherlands. He’s only built two so far. He got the first one up to 50 mph but backed off when visions of catastrophic wheel failure danced in his head. He figures the bikes will hit 75 if anyone’s got the guts to do it.

      • Backup all your data with Backup Platinum to DVD,CD,USB,FTP and LAN

        backup-platinum-screenshot.gif

Data is important for everyone and everybody does try to keep the most updated backup of their data because in case of hard disk failure all your data will be lost and if you won’t have backup of all your data then you will not have any option to get your data back. There are some data recovey softwares available in the market which can recover some of your data but they cannot recover all of your data and also the recovered data will be incomplete this has happened with me also thats why i m advising you to have the most recent backup of all your data.

You can backup your data manually by copy and pasting everytime but you also have an another great option for backing up data. The option is Backup Platinum.

Backup Platinum makes a reserve copy of your critical data virtually to any type of storage media: hard or USB drives, CD-R/W or DVD±R/RW media, FTP server or Local Area Network. The program uses “Wizard” approach to define the backup set: what, where, how and when to backup. 128-bit encryption with Blowfish and multichoice ZIP compression on the fly are available to keep your backups small and secure. Built-in CD/DVD engine allows you to erase the rewritable disk before burning and automatically split large backups to several parts using disk spanning. The program is based on multi-threaded file-processing engine and creates detailed logs of all operations. It also can run in service mode under NT-based systems to execute scheduled tasks even when nobody is logged in.

I have also installed  and used Backup Platinum and i m really surprised with the features it is offering in a reasonable price.I like all of its features specially feature of encrypting the data in blowfish encryption and ability to copy backup on another computer in your LAN.

Backup Platinum is priced at $67 per license. You can purchase a license from our e-commerce provider RegNow. They provide flexible volume discount pricing.

Adobe Share Beta: Free 1 GB Online File Storage Space

        adobe

The trend of online file sharing is not new to many of the users out there but the trend of using web applications powered by Adobe Air definitely gives a new experience to many of the users. Adobe Share Beta is a great online web application which brings the trend of online file sharing to life again but in a more innovative way using the power of Adobe Air technology.

Adobe Share Beta is exactly like one of those online file sharing services that most of you use daily except that it redefines this concept by allowing you to upload and share files using an online web application rather than a HTML Form. The online web application is powered by Adobe Air and takes a second to load.

There is also an option to batch upload multiple files at once in one go. Share your files with your friends and family or send files directly to their email along with a personalized message. You can even choose the access level for your shared files.

My Library will keep a track of all of the files that you have shared or uploaded. You can even search for specific files if you have lot of useless bunch of files. Files have a unique URL and Embded Code which can be used to share files on blogs or social networks.
Adobe Share Beta Forums is a good place to learn more about Share Beta

How to Hide a Partition on NTFS in Windows

On windows, every partition your computer contains that has readable NTFS/FAT32 data is automatically assigned a drive letter by Windows. However, what if you want to hide certain sets of data? Probably the first thing that comes to mind is to format it with an alternative file system, such as Linux’s ext2/ext3. But then it becomes a task to access the data.

Maybe you could get a USB or external SATA Hard Drive. But then anyone who finds it can access the data quite easily. So, how does one create data that remains, for the most part, hidden on a Windows installation?

The answer is rather simple, although not completly fool-proof. The current latest incarnation of NTFS allows you to mount drives to folders in addition to the already assigned drive letters. But once you’ve created this mount point to a folder, nothing stops you from deleting the link the partition has to it’s assigned letter. After making sure the only link to your data is through a folder on another NTFS partition, mark it as hidden. Of course, you’ll also need to have “Show Hidden Files and Folders” in Folder Options unchecked.

You know what to do now, but I’m betting most of you don’t know how yet. Therfore, I’ve outlined the basic process below. Before starting this, make sure you have free space on your drive for another partition, and go ahead and create a blank folder wherever you want your new data to reside, preferably somewhere easy to access. I chose “C:/” as the location for my folder, and named it “Hide”. Therefore, to access my partition, I go to “C:/Hide/”.

First, we need a blank partition to put all of our data on. Start by opening up your local disk manager service, which can be found by Right-Clicking “My Computer” and selecting “Manage”.

        hide1.png

Now that we have the system manager open, we need the “Disk Management” section. Here you will notice an area seperated roughly along the vertical-middle, with drive letters listed above and partitions listed below.

        hide2.png

Once in the disk manager, we need to create a new partition. Wherever you see empty space you can right-click to create a new partition. If you have no unallocated space, you’ll need to use partition resizer such as GParted (probably the LiveCD version is the best and easiest way to use it) to create the space for your new partition, or get another hard drive to store it on. So, right click your free space wherever it may be, and click “New Partition”

        hide3.png

Now, simply follow the wizard, entering the size you want your new partition to be and naming it. Eventually, you will reach a section asking you for where you want to mount your new partition. Here, click the radio tab to choose a folder and browse to your folder, selecting “OK”.

        hide4.png

The next screen will ask you how to format and name the partition. You can name it if you want, or choose to change the file system. I recommend using NTFS, because it’s the newest and most secure of Windows file systems. However, remember that if you use NTFS you won’t be able to write to it from other operating systems (such as Linux), although you do gain the ability to encrypt the data. After choosing these settings, click “Next” and then “Finish” to finalize your partition. You will notice it appears in the list of partitions in the lower section.

        hide5.png

Now, simply navigate to your folder and set its properties to indicate it is “Hidden”. If you wish, you may also click “Advanced” and encrypt the data, so that only you will be able to read it.

        hide6.png

Now that you’ve finished creating and setting up your new partition, you can access it by directly typing its location into the address bar of any folder browser.

        hide7.png

Note:This method does not make accessing a file on the partition impossible, it only makes it hidden. Anyone who knows how to look up the partition table can tell if something is hidden, and anyone with access to the Disk Management service can see where it is mounted (only Administrators and possibly Super Users). Again, in no way does this make the files impossible to access!
